| jlm 6/3/2005 Junior Linnea Esberg, freshman Sophie Zebell, and eighth grader Nora Hagerman recently wrote their way into the world of Jane Austen at a Jane Austen Writing Conference at Homestead High School. After presentations by Carrie Bebris, author of Pride and Prescience and Kim Wilson, author of Tea with Jane Austen, participants in the workshop wrote letters similar to those found in Austen novels. Sophie Zebell won third prize and will be invited to participate in the Annual General Meeting of the Jane Austen Society of North America banquet and seminar sessions in Milwaukee in October. Linnea L. Esberg and Nora Hagerman were among the twelve best writers chosen to attend the Saturday sessions. All three students’ letters will be published in the Society’s booklet. The May event included an English tea with cucumber sandwiches and petit fours and conversation with Kim Wilson. Upper School English Peetie Basson, a member of the Jane Austen Society, accompanied the USM students. |
